3 April 1672 It evidently appearing that Margarett George Servt to Capt John Scasbrooke hath illegally absented herselfe from her Master’s Service three weekes & three daies & that she had a bastard in the tyme of her service Itt is therefore ord that she Serve her said Master Six weekes & Six daies being double the tyme of her running away as alsoe two compleate yeares for having a bastard after the expiracon of her first tyme according to Act as alsoe defray by Service what chardges her said Master is at in paying officers fees as sherr & Clarkes dues. Source: York County Deeds, Orders, and Wills (5) 126. 25 October 1675 Whereas mr Thomas Hansford did imploy Franciscus Fardinandus Gower to goe after James Wilkison being run away being much engaged for him (was to pay the said Gower in case he found him) twelve hundred pounds of tobacco & Caske, if not, for his paines hee was to pay him seaven hundred pounds of tobo & Caske and the said Gower having beene after him about twenty one daies It is ordd that the said Hansford pay him six hundred pounds of tobaccoe & Caske & Costs and the said Hansford craving a reference till the next Court the same is denied him in regard hee gave not any reason whereupon a Reference could be grounded Source: York County Deeds, Orders, and Wills (5) 128. 1 March 1675/6 mrs Elizabeth Petters having expended Six hundred pounds of Tobaccoe & Caske in regaining a runaway Servt of hers by name John Smith & the said Smith having carried away with him a Bell mettle Skellett & other goods is ordrd to serve her after the expiracon of his first time Nine compleat Months being in full Satisfaction for his running away her disbursemnts and for the goods hee carried away wth him.
